HAVERHILL Whether you are new to the game of football or you’ve played for several years, the National Football League, in partnership with Haverhill High School’s athletics department, has something special for you.
The NFL Junior Player Development Camp, sponsored by the NFL’s players fund for community outreach, is coming to Haverhill Stadium this summer.
Tim Brigg, head football coach at Haverhill High, said he was able to arrange for the camp to come to the city last year and again this year after a chance meeting with an NFL representative who was looking for a community where the camp could do some good.
“I feel like I almost fell into it, but it’s a very fortunate situation and I hope we can take advantage of it,” Briggs said. to noon each day, and is open to area boys and girls ages 11 to 14. Participants will have a chance to learn about and play every position of the game.
The curriculum is rigorous, and will be taught by former professional players such as NFL great Andre Tippet, who visited the Haverhill camp last year and spent a day teaching the finer points of the game and motivating participants to persevere and achieve their goals.
The camp is free and participants will be provided with everything they need, including helmets and shoulder pads. cheap jerseys Kids also will get to take home free player jerseys, wrist bands, sports bags, footballs and more.
Young people from throughout the area, including New Hampshire, are invited to sign up for the camp, and at no cost to them.
“Last year about 80 kids attended,” Briggs said. “This year we’re hoping to sign up more than 100 kids.”
