- Open Source
The present era has seen rapid progress in open source development. Open Source is slowly becoming the mainstay in web development around the world. Ecommerce website design and development projects now utilize open source as their basis. Popular open source software such as Magento, Joomla, Zen Cart, WordPress, X-Cart, and others are now creating waves in the online world.
Open Source Software encompasses several advantages over proprietary software. To be frank enough, there are certain disadvantages as well, the single most benefit that you obtain is that you are not locked in with a particular vendor. This can be especially helpful in cases where there are dependency issues that crop up later for added functionality with the proprietary software vendors.
This problem is usually resolved with open source development because of a growing community of developers and users. This tends to lead to higher quality of the product as well as faster growth. Additionally, open source development is cheaper in terms of initial costs and in most cases, it is free!
However, the main issue is getting people accustomed to working with open source. Sometimes, people may not get comfortable with open source, and that’s the only point where friction can take place. If you are capable of resolving this issue, then you have a winner in place!
